The next Congress should be elected through randomization process

Idea for justice system

When a problem occurs have the parties go to court with randomized juries as per usual. But we shouldn’t have any laws but simply the question can be not ‘is this against the law?’ But instead ‘is this person wrong and how to be punished?’ I think this could work a lot better because we are always making laws now after cases and it’s just becoming a headache for everyone. We obviously change our morals and standards as we learn more so why have all these laws meant to last forever? Just think about the permits, codes, tickets, etc. So yeah.

Ramblings on the cycle of abuse

So the cycle of abuse happens because people feel loyal to their family (which is a biological imperative?) Basically, people learn behaviors and repeat them if not given enough tools to heal.

I think one problem is that the biological imperative is even there when the kids are young and they don’t come forward because whenever anyone discovers someone is a child abuser they are treated like crap. So kids are scared to tell anyone there. Another problem is that many times we find out kids are abused but send them to just live with other relatives which seems weird because, I don’t know, abuse is a sign the whole family is dysfunctional. Not necessarily, but if it’s a cycle why do we put kids back into the cycle? Anyway therapy should be mandated obviously but therapy doesn’t always help. I feel sometimes therapists don’t put enough effort into doing what is proven to work but do what they think is best. And also all this is expensive which is unfair for poor families. Omg and I have heard of teens or males who are victims but not taken seriously. We should teach manners in school too.

Those are a few ideas to help fix the problem.

I think it’s actually kind of shitty that people know about the cycle but still act as if child abusers are pure evil and pretend they just came up with the idea to abuse on their own. I think for some people it’s too late though (can just live the rest of their life in jail) but for the future I think we can consider rehabilitation for even the worst offenders alongside imprisonment. Another problem with society there. There’s no rehabilitation. People are all out for revenge whether or not those methods work.

Anyway here’s a good site on the matter: http://davidmallenmd.blogspot.com/2012/02/hatefulness-as-gift-of-love-part-i.html

Do you care more about truly trying to fix a problem or getting revenge? Getting revenge may or may not stop it from happening. You care less about the victims at that point. Food for thought.

Well, you know…shit.

why would you pay someone for 26-51 weeks for doing nothing

you have a very, very odd definition of “doing nothing”.

I think it is very important to think about the values of these countries and the different implementation of gender roles in each.

wait Laura explain more!!

I mean, for example why do you think Russia gives mothers 52 weeks or more of maternity leave? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that in Russia women are more encouraged to be maternal and raise their sons rather than to be a part of the workplace? Just my two cents.
I think we should look at this entire map critically. Because while the fact that the U.S. does not give paid leave for mothers is a huge problem and its super sexist, giving a lot of paid maternity leave can also be sexist because it is done in order to keep women in the home.

this is a nice comment

“A person of good intelligence and sensitivity cannot exist in this society very long without having some anger about the inequality - and it’s not just a bleeding-heart, knee-jerk, liberal kind of a thing - it is just a normal human reaction to a nonsensical set of values where we have cinnamon flavored dental floss and there are people sleeping in the street.” George Carlin (via wet-violet)
